San Francisco Giants Stadium
One way to keep track of what remains of summer is to look at the San Francisco Giants´ schedule. An even better way, is to look at the standings and pick up some tickets for the playoffs race in downtown San Francisco´s unique stadium.
AT&T Park was the first privately financed ballpark in Major League Baseball since the Dodger Stadium (1962), and features a nine-foot statue of Willie Mays for baseball history buffs, Portuguese water dogs who fetch home runs that splash into McCovey Cove, an 80-foot Coca-Cola bottle with playground slides and even a miniature AT&T Park behind left field for the kids. Add that to a public transit system that will get you easily to and from the waterfront stadium and most parts of the bay, and a trip to AT&T Park should be a part of any San Francisco visit.
Here are some more reasons to go:
• Baseball, pure and simple; obviously this is a prime attraction and needs no explanation.
• Location & Architecture. Sports facilities are an experiment in architectural design as well as utility; and this park, located near downtown and right on the waterfront, is both easy to get to and offers great views both inside and outside.
• Food & Beer. Yes, it is expensive, but a beer, some peanuts and garlic fries (unique to San Francisco) are part of an enjoyable experience at the ballpark.
• Inexpensive. While this is relative, going to a baseball game is one of the most affordable events to attend (after your son or daughter’s soccer game); and this park even offers the option to walk along the waterfront and get a free view from outside.
Whether you're visiting from out of town, taking your kid to a ballgame for the first time, or on a date, a day or night at the ballpark is a must for everyone who lives in or visits San Francisco.
