The San Francisco Ballet Company.

The San Francisco Ballet Company.

The San Francisco Ballet is currently in the midst of its spring season, and the caliber of dance is simply top notch. The Company is currently performing mixed bills, and will soon be performing The Little Mermaid. The spectacle of lights, costumes, music and dance, all in the majestic War Memorial Opera House´s performance space, is not to be missed.

I recently saw the Mixed Bill Program 3 , which gives the viewer an opportunity to witness three totally unique dance performances in one evening. The first piece, Classical Symphony, features music by Sergei Prokofiev, and is a traditional ballet with many pirouettes pas de deux. The last two pieces however, are more modern in both dance style and look. Nanna's Lied is choreographed by SF Ballet Director Helgi Tomasson, and tells the story of a young girl arriving to a large German city. The set pieces look like Richard Serra sculptures, and the singing—all in German—is beautiful. The last dance, Artifact Suite, is almost avant-garde. The whole company participates, and the lighting and set design are used to have a striking effect.

Prepare to be moved by an evening of beautiful music and dance during the SF Ballet's Spring Season!
