Specialty's Cafe&Bakery
In the mornings, it often seems like the only breakfast option in the downtown area is one of the many Starbucks, often located just one block away from each other. While not as big of a chain as Starbucks, Specialty's Cafe&Bakery is a San Francisco-based chain with a few locations around the downtown, the Financial District and Soma areas. For the working person looking for a good, cheap breakfast or lunch, Specailty's is a great choice.
Breakfast there often means freshly baked bread and pastries; the muffins are huge, and the croissants are particularly good, soft and flaky. In the evenings, as people are leaving work, the distinct scent of freshly baked cookies leaves the store, begging passersby to stop in and buy one. The chocolate chip cookies are very good.
I haven't had lunch at Specialty's much, but there is always a line, and the few times I have bought soup there, it has always been good. For a reasonably priced hot meal downtown, Specialty's is worth visiting.
