Community Thrift Store
Community Thrift Store on Valencia (between 17th and 18th) is a non-profit organization that helps the neediest people, both with the money it takes in as well as the clothes on sale.
The clothes are always very cheap, and most have been previously owned. At the store, you can find clothes, shoes, furniture, records, TVs, and a thousand other things. I'm most interested in the books, almost all of which are in good condition and which are rarely above $3. Not even Amazon is this cheap, and besides, I know that my money, although not much, always goes to those who need it the most.
You can donate items (you can fill out a tax exemption form if you'd like) through a door at the back of the building, on Sycamore Alley. When you donate the items you want to get rid of, you are asked which affiliated NGO you would like to benefit from your donation link: ). Donations can be made from 10AM to 5PM, and staff can come to your house if you are donating large pieces of furniture (call (415) 861-4910 to set up a time). In any case, you can review the list of accepted donations here.
