David Alan Grier as Maya Angelou

David Alan Grier as Maya Angelou

This weekend David Alan Grier brings his comedy stylings to Cobb's in North Beach for a four night run. The alum of "In Living Color" has appeared in a few movies on and off throughout the years, and even enjoyed a (very) short run on Comedy Central with "Chocolate News". Yet it is with traditional stand-up that "D.A.G." truly shines.

David Alan Grier may not have had the success of some other "In Living Color" alums like Jamie Foxx, Damon Wayans, and a certain cartoonish Canadian named Jim Carrey. He does, however, have a loyal fan base that supports his standup. His style is kinetic, high-energy, and more observational than caustic. He riffs on relationships, the media, and race relations, all with that signature confused expression. One memorable impression that stood out from his brief show "Chocolate News" was the poet Maya Angelou. Hopefully "Doctor" Angelou will make an appearance at Cobb's (along with some of D.A.G.'s other personas). Here he is as his "Men on Film" character from "In Living Color".
