Disney on Ice
Disney on Ice's "Worlds of Fantasy" opens at the HP Pavilion in San Jose Wednesday February 24, playing through Sunday before opening at the Oracle Arena in Oakland on March 3-7. The show opened for a 70 city, two-year tour in August 2008, and features enough spinning, jumping and cool effects on ice to thrill anyone.
With well-loved Disney characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as your guides, you’ll be transported into the worlds of “The Little Mermaid”, “The Lion King”, the animated movie “Cars” and Tinker Bell’s fairyland “Pixie Hollow”.
The Cars segment, a favorite of the boys in attendance, features Lightning McQueen the racer, Mater the tow truck, Sally the Porsche, Flo the show car and Ramon the lowrider. Featuring state-of-the-art, custom animatronics, the cars’ eyes and mouths move in sync with their dialogue as they jump and spin around the ice. The Little Mermaid features colorful, flowing costumes and graceful skating, as Princess Ariel, Flounder the fish and Sebastian the crab skate under the sea – a dramatic wave made of a large multicolored piece of flowing silk. “The Lion King” features Pumbaa, Rafiki the baboon, Simba, Mufasa and Sarabi the lions. The story of Simba is retold in shortened fashion, and an especially exciting moment happens when a wildebeest stampede covers the whole ice.
Mickey and Minnie open up the second half of the show, which features the computer-animated film “Tinker Bell” followed by the on-ice antics of Tinker Bell in the land of Pixie Hollow. When the Sprinting Thistles try to destroy the Springtime, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends have to save the day. This segment features a stunning, huge tree that makes the skaters really look like tiny fairies.
