Now that we are in the third week of September, it is time for Oktoberfest in San Francisco, as a large swath of the Embarcadero goes red, yellow and black for Oktoberfest festivities. The official Oktoberfest by the Bay is held on Pier 48 on the Embarcadero from Thursday, September 23 to Sunday, September 26. Prepare for traditional German culture: music, dancing, food, and lots and lots of beer.
The festivities will take place in the spacious Pier 48, where there will be a plethora of booths selling food and beer. A word to the wise: beer and food are not included in the price of admission, and credit cards are not accepted, so be sure to bring cash (although there will be ATMs inside). The price of admission for access to the pavilion, along with music and dance, varies depending on day and time of attendance. For example, there will be two separate entries on Saturday: one from 11am-5pm, and another from 6pm-12pm, but the price range is $25 for September 23rd, and $30 for the 24th-26th. Children's admission, on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon only, is $5.
What should you expect to see once inside Pier 48? Live music by the Chico Bavarian Band and the Deutscher Musikverein, along with performances of traditional Bavarian dance by the Nature Friends Schuhplattler, along with bratwursts and icy cold Spaten.
