Spring powder in Tahoe.

Spring powder in Tahoe.

Apparently Spring has arrived, at least according to the calendar, but somebody forgot to tell mother nature. As I'm writing this from the warmth of the cabin that I rented for the ski season, it is dumping snow outside. Here is a quick summary of the conditions on this first day of spring 2011.

Excerpt from yesterday's snow report at Alpine Meadows:

"Alpine picked up 28 inches in the past 24 hours bringing the storm total to 54 inches and the 7 day total to 9 feet on top. There is a ton of snow still to come this week as Alpine is quickly approaching 700 inches on the season. The mountain is buried in massive amounts of fluffy snow."

Springtime in Tahoe, while fickle, can offer snowstorms and fresh powder into April, May and even later in the year. There are more snow activities available than just skiing and for whatever you choose to do—ski, snowboard, gamble, snowshoe, or relax by a fire—this is the time of year that offers some great deals. Here are a few worth mentioning:

Spring Pass deals:

Alpine Meadows ($99) beginning March 20, 2011
Kirkwood ($169) beginning March 21, 2011 or ($99) after April 1, 2011
Multiple Resorts: Free Spring Skiing with the purchase of next years Season passes.

Just in case you were interested in taking part in some of the Spring Festivities including dj's, costumes, competitions, adult beverages and just plain goofiness, there are resorts such as Kirkwood, Mammoth and of course Squaw Valley to name a few. With over 600 inches of snow, many resorts will have snow well beyond their closing dates, so grab a deal and take advantage of the Tahoe Spring experience.
