Stern Grove 2010
Since 1938, the Stern Grove Festival Association has been presenting an admission-free performing art series in San Francisco’s Sigmund Stern Grove. In the Sunset District, an area not usually known as the center of music and performance in San Francisco, this annual series offers a wide range of musical options underneath the trees, all in a beautiful public park filled with eucalyptus trees.
The concert series runs from June 20 – August 22, 2010 and is FREE. Beginning with the Afro-pop diva Angélique Kidjo (here's Kidjo's wonderful cover of a Rolling Stones classic) on Father’s Day, June 20th, the festival includes a diverse lineup of artists, such as They Might be Giants, the San Francisco Ballet, and the Colombian electro-cumbia group Bomba Estéree. For the opener, GRAMMY-winning artist Angélique Kidjo takes the stage with her blend of soul, Afro pop, and jazz. The show starts at 2 p.m., however it is highly recommended that you arrive early to find a place under the shade.
The events are free and are almost always completely full. Bring a blanket and a cooler filled with your favorite adult beverages, and meet up with some friends for a great afternoon of music outdoors at San Francisco’s Stern Grove. For more information visit the Stern Grove Festival Association site, with a full event calendar as well. Stern Grove is truly one of the great summer events in the city.
