In the event participate the world's best big wave riders

Surfers, Surf forecasters, sponsors and spectators are waiting for one of the Bay Area's most interesting events to be announced.  Unlike most professional sports, this competition does not have a set date, but rather a three month window during which, should conditions become ideal, organizers and surfers alike have only 1-2 days to put together the contest.

About The Jay at Maverick's

The Jay at Maverick's Big Wave Invitational is a one day competition to be held between December 1st and February 28th, 2011. The event brings together the world's best big wave riders and nature's most challenging wave. The surfers come to showcase the state of the art of surfing, push their limits, and celebrate the sport they love. Last year's monumental event saw the largest waves ever faced in competition, with many rides topping the previous Guinness World Record. Now dedicated to the spirit of Jay Moriarity, the annual pilgrimage has taken on additional meaning, and will continue to be one of the greatest spectacles in all of sports.  With $150,000 in prize money, the invited competitors will be watching anxiously for Mother Nature to present incredible waves in 2011.

In 2010 the Maverick's Surf competition presented record breaking waves and an incredible competition, all with a backdrop of event organizer squabbles and rogue waves hitting spectators. This year, Mother Nature permitting, the 2011 version, now called The Jay at Maverick's, will offer an incredible competition.

Where to Watch:

Due to some of the 2010 problems, spectators have been banned from the cliffs during the event, so here are some options for viewing the event.

Online: Avoid the crowds and catch the action through live streaming on The Jay at Maverick's or Surfing Live's websites.
By Boat: No information yet, but in years past this has been one of the best options other than paddling out for getting close to the action.
AT&T Park: The event will be showing on the big screen at the home of the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants.
Oceano Hotel and Spa in Half Moon Bay: The hotel offers special room packages and will have viewing available in the bar.  For more information call (650) 726-5400 and mention the Jay VIP for ticket information.
Many more viewing options will be presented when the dates arrive, so to keep up with information, it is recommended that you check out The Jay at Maverick's website and the corresponding Facebook and Twitter feeds.
