World Cup
In California we are not known as the most ardent sports fans- but the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is the talk of the town, both inside and outside of the sports community. There is not a major television channel or website that does not have some mention of the event, as it promises to be the most watched sports event worldwide. Not only does the World Cup put South Africa in the spotlight, but brings the world’s most loved sport directly into U.S. homes via ESPN and ABC. There are even March Madness type brackets available on ESPN.com to pick the winners and even set up a pool among friends and co-workers.
While one may choose to follow a few games via the internet or on a television at home, the best way to enjoy the tournament is to get out there, put on a jersey from your favorite team (U.S.A. jerseys available at the Nike Store), and get into the spirit. I can also say that watching the Mexican national team play Argentina with Mexicans and Argentineans present is a very exciting experience!
Though most people may not have the opportunity to head to a bar in the morning for the early 6 a.m. games, there is certainly a bar near your office that warrants a lunchtime visit. Here are a few viewing locations that promise to be lively and entertaining regardless of the time of day. From pupusas at Balompie to buffalo wings at the Kezar Pub, these places offer some great food and big TVs too.
