This weekend in San Francisco offers two events at opposite sides of the spectrum for this diverse city. Both involve scantily clad men and women, a level of craziness, and they promise to slow traffic in the area. Get ready for the San Francisco Marathon and Up Your Alley.
Until September 6th, the great masterpieces of French Impressionism are on display at the DeYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park. On loan from the Musee D'Orsay in Paris, the exhibit "Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musee D'Orsay" is a collection of Impressionist masterworks that provides a wonderful glimpse of over 100 paintings from artists such as Degas, Manet, Cezanne, and many more.
This weekend David Alan Grier brings his comedy stylings to Cobb's in North Beach for a four night run. The alum of "In Living Color" has appeared in a few movies on and off throughout the years, and even enjoyed a (very) short run on Comedy Central with "Chocolate News". Yet it is with traditional stand-up that "D.A.G." truly shines.
One of my favorite street festivals of the summer is the Fillmore Jazz Festival, which welcomes around 90,000 guests each year. The Festival is a showcase of the diversity of San Francisco, featuring music, culture and cuisine set against the picturesque backdrop of Fillmore Street.
