Mission Beach Cafe
On the corner of Guerrero and 14th is one of the hottest brunch spots on the weekends. It's common to see around a dozen people lined up by the door waiting to hear their name called and be seated. This restaurant is Mission Beach Cafe....
and it is, of course, in the Mission, and between service hours it's a cafe and bakery. Why the word beach is in the name is a mystery to me.
The menu changes periodically, which is a welcome feature at this type of restaurant, and makes each new visit a chance to try something new. What's more, the quality of the food and the wine list does not disappoint. You can go every day of the week and find different menus- besides the weekend brunch, there's the brunch/lunch during the week, "pot pie Tuesday" and dinner. You could eat here for weeks and taste something new every day. I recommend any of the fish dishes from the menu, generous portions for what you usually find here in California, and of course, the always filling, and organic, hamburger (the cheapest item on the menu).
I mentioned above that Mission Beach Cafe makes its own desserts and pastries, and you can go any time and bring one of the yummy desserts home. I won't make a lengthy list of the desserts here; instead, the dessert list can be read online. Yum!
