Mexico D.F.

On a street with many exciting restaurant options, Mexico D.F. offers good Mexican food in a beautiful setting. Nestled on Steuart Street, just steps from Market Street, Justin Herman Plaza and the Ferry Building, the restaurant is small and stylish, with careful attention paid to every detail, from the plates to lights to curtains.  This same care for quality and detail extends to the food and drink, which are all delicious.

Tlaloc

Tlaloc

We here at CiuSF love authentic Mexican food, and are pleased that we have finally found it in the lunchtime desert that is the Financial District.  Nestled across from Mixt Greens on Commercial Street, a wide alley off of Sansome Street, Tlaloc could be easily missed by passersby looking for other restaurants in the area.  Yet with plenty of patio seating outside, as well as seating on THREE STORIES inside (first floor, mezzanine and balcony, Tlaloc has the space- you just have to choose among the many choices on the extensive menu.

The Plant Cafe

The Plant Cafe

The Plant Cafe is proof that healthy food doesn't always mean rice cakes, celery, and food that tastes like cardboard. I first walked into the Marina District location not realizing that it specialized in healthy, organic fare, and found myself raving about a soup and sandwich combo that was the perfect, filling, tasty lunch. Whether you're making an effort to eat organic, sustainable food,or just want a break from the typical lunch food, try The Plant Cafe.

Sea Salt

Sea Salt

A super successful chain restaurant in Berkeley?! Well not actually a chain, but the K2 Restaurant Group, started by Haig Krikorian and Cindy Lalime in 1985 runs five, no make that six, restaurants in the East Bay, well actually just Berkeley (and a little bit of Albany) – home of Lalime's, Fonda, T-Rex, Jimmy Beans, the wood oven pizzeria Paisan, and Sea Salt. This is part II of my review of the restaurants that make up the K2 Restaurant group. I already reviewed La Fonda – great place – and now I'd like to review Sea Salt.
