Cafe Cocomo
Escondido en el Distrito Potrero de San Pancho, a poca distancia del mar (y lugares como Jelly’s y The Ramp) encontrarás Café Cocomo, probablemente el lugar de baile Latino mas consistente en la ciudad. La pista de baile es enorme y hermosa, y el escenario hace muy placentero la experiencia de mirar las orquestas tocar. Aun así, los bailarines en el Área de la Bahía apenas miran quién está tocando en general, pero de eso escribiré mas otro día. Todas las mejores orquestas tocan aquí (la Orquesta Mazacote de Louie Romero tocará el 23 de enero, tocan allí con frecuencia), y cuando vienen las artistas grandes de afuera, generalmente tocan en Cocomo.
The dancing style at Cocomo tends towards ballroom (read – women throwing their hands in the air in a dramatic flourish), but the vibe is nice, and people come to dance. Beyond the main dance floor, there is a smaller room with a bar and booths – it’s a nice area to practice moves or just sit and relax. They serve champagne at the bar (nice), and have a huge outdoor area where you can sit and enjoy the beverage of your choice under the stars. Finally, as the title of the article says, there is salsa just about every night of the week at Cocomo, and the other days have either Tango or Reggaeton. Cocomo rates a high recommend for a night of Latin dancing in SF. Enjoy!
