127 Hours

127 Hours

After the tremendous worldwide success of "Slumdog Millionaire", British director Danny Boyle follows up with a new film, "127 Hours". The movie dramatizes an incredible true story: the "adventure" experienced by Aron Ralston in 2003, when he slipped and fell in a narrow canyon while on a hiking trip in Utah.  I'm not giving anything away by saying that what Aron Ralston faced next was one of those extreme situations that places the limits of human resistance to the test and show us just how far the instinct for survival can take us.

Aron Ralston is played by James Franco, in one of his rare performances as the protagonist of a film (he is filmed alone throughout most of the movie).  This role is one of the best of his career, and there is already talk of a possible Oscar nomination.  The circumstances Ralston finds himself in could lead any other actor to overact, or overcompensate for the physical limitations of the role by playing it too big.  Franco is just perfect in the role.

Warning: those who suffer from claustrophobia or can't stand seeing blood onscreen should stay away.
