Lisbeth Salander
"The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest", the last installment in the Millennium trilogy, has just arrived in theaters. This series of novels catapulted the Swedish journaist Stieg Larsson to fame shortly after his death. The movie premiered in Sweden in 2009 and was directed by Daniel Alfredson and stars Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace -in the role of Lisbeth Salander- and Lena Endre.
For those unfamiliar with Larsson's Millennium saga, it's best to see the two preceding movies in the trilogy first (and also, if possible, read all the books), to be able to follow the intricate plot. Since teh movies is a full two and half hours long, many of the details in the book don't make it into the film, but nonetheless, the movie is good. Another thriller that leaves us wondering what would have happened if Larsson hadn't passed away and could have finished the whole series, just as he had planned.
The plot: Lisbeth Salander plans to take revenge on the man who tried to kill her, along with the government institutions that almost destroyed her life. After being hurt at the end of the last film, Salander is in intensive care under police protection, and is brought to trial for three murders as soon as she can leave the hospital. With the help of the journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the researchers from Millennium magazine, Salander will have to not only prove her innocence, but also identify and bring charges against the corrupt politicians who made her life a living hell. Salander is getting even.
