Cirque du Soleil's Quidam.
Unless you have been living under a rock, more than likely, you´ve heard of Cirque du Soleil. A Quebec-based theater company that has attained worldwide recognition for their diverse, energetic and always entertaining performances, Cirque du Soleil continues to excite audiences throughout the world. Since 1984, the group went from 73 employees to now 4,000, and while the performances do hit major arenas, they are famous for their signature set-up of a large bigtop including a circus-like atmosphere.
Coming to the Bay Area in March, the San Francisco performances begin April 6, 2011 at the Cow Palace. While it is not the traditional stand alone big top as in years past, I'm sure that the interior of the venue will be set up in the same festive manner for which the group is famous. In the past, we have written about Cirque du Soleil as a prime opportunity for guys to impress their significant others with the prospects of not being bored out of their minds. This opera is not as the classic Bud Light commercial´s depiction, but an athletic, fast paced and energetic event featuring a circus-like atmosphere, a variety of high energy music and usually plenty of access to adult beverages, which you can even drink during the show.
Now here is some of the key background information about Quidam, from the Cirque du Soleil website.
"Young Zoé is bored; her parents, distant and apathetic, ignore her. Her life has lost all meaning. Seeking to fill the void of her existence, she slides into an imaginary world—the world of Quidam — where she meets characters who encourage her to free her soul.
Quidam: a nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past and swallowed by the crowd. It could be anyone, anybody. Someone coming or going at the heart of our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all. This is the “quidam” whom this show allows to speak. This is the place that beckons—a place for dreaming and genuine relations where all quidams, by proclaiming their individuality, can finally emerge from anonymity."
