Cake: Showroom of Compassion.

The California-based band Cake is coming to San Francisco´s historic Fillmore Theater this February.  From Sacramento and formed in the mid 90's, this band has a very distinctive style of music that blends everything from rock, funk, country and more.

Best known for their 1996 Fashion Nugget album that led to several strong singles including "Short Skirt Long Jacket" and one of my favorites, "Italian Leather Sofa," the band continues to entertain and produce new albums, Showroom of Compassion their latest. A great way to hear some of their music if you are unfamiliar is to check out their MySpace page.

On top of being a solid and entertaining band, is the fact that they´re playing at the Fillmore Theater. In the mid 1960's, The Fillmore became the focal point for psychedelic music and counterculture in general, with acts such as The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix all having performing there. Located in the Fillmore district of San Francisco and surrounded by excellent restaurants as well as musical venues for the after show, such as Rassela's  or the Boom Boom Room, this is a must-visit theater.
