Colombia y Panama
Based on the Panama! and Colombia! compilations on Soundway Records, DJs Beto, Vinnie Esparza & Guillermo have been throwing the COLOMBIA Y PANAMA! parties for two years now to an ever growing crowd of dancers, record collectors including Colombians and Panamanians living in the Bay Area coming out to hear the O.G. tones of home that they grew up listening to. The majority of the music played has been painstakingly excavated and brought back to the States by DJ Beto over the last few years. This has unearthed mind blowing original Salsa, Cumbias, Afro-Colombian funk and even the odd reggae & doo wop tune! No one else in the Bay Area is presenting this music in such a concentrated pure dancefloor setting!
Compiled by Beto, Quantic and Miles Cleret, the Colombia! and Panama! compilation series showcase the unique tropical music created in Panama and neighboring Colombia in the fertile decades of the 1960s and ’70s. From bilingual calypsos to guajira jazz, from tropical guarachas to cumbia tamboreras, these tropical musicians fearlessly combined and brilliantly executed styles that reflected their multicultural environment and political climate.
