De La Soul
De La Soul, the classic hip hop group that peaked in the early 90's, is returning to the Bay Area this weekend for two shows at Yoshi's San Francisco. Although the tickets are a bit pricey at $40, the chance to see this great act in such a unique venue should not be missed.
First a bit about Yoshi's, then De La. Yoshi's is the San Francisco cousin to the original Oakland jazz spot mixing live jazz with Japanese food- excellent combination. Yoshi's SF is in The Fillmore, San Francisco's historic jazz district, which has several venues for seeing live jazz, though Yoshi's clearly stands out as the most elegant of the bunch, attracting big names in jazz and other genres.
De La Soul is far from jazz, but they are definitely artists. Their biggest hit was "Me, myself and I", though they have a solid body of work behind them. Catchy beats, whimsical lyrics, and positivity are what they're known for. Still going strong after over 20 years together, the trio still perform together. This should be a great show- don't miss it!
