Jorge Drexler and his guitar
On January 26th, San Franciscans are in for a real treat, when Academy Award-winning singer Jorge Drexler arrives for a rare small club date. The Uruguayan singer is promoting his most recent album, "Amar la Trama" at Mezzanine. I've seen him in another small club gig in San Francisco, and I must say that it's one of the best concerts I've attended.
It doesn't matter if you speak Spanish or don't know more than "hola", whether you know Jorge Drexler's whole catalogue of songs or just know his Academy Award winning song "Al Otro Lado del Rio"("On the Other Side of the RIver") for the film "The Motorcycle Diaries". Jorge doesn't need much accompaniment, preferring to share the stage with no one else but his guitar, and prefacing many of his songs with introductions and anecdotes in both Spanish and English. His melodies are light and his lyrics beautiful, painting a picture with the simples of words. Expect to hear songs from his new album "Amar la Trama". This is a show not to be missed for lovers of good songwriting and intimate live performances.
