Manolito y su Trabuco
President Obama has opened the doors to Cuban artists and musicians after a long freeze under former President Bush, and we are all the richer for it. The Bay Area is in for a rare treat on Saturday, May 8th as Café Cocomo plays host to Manolito Simonet y Su Trabuco, direct from La Habana, Cuba. This is Manolito’s first visit to the Bay Area or the West Coast, and the local salsa community is buzzing with anticipation.
Simonet is a pianist, keyboard player, arranger and composer who founded his Trabuco in 1993, and is a key member of the Timba music movement. Manolito and his Trabuco, who have 4 CDs out thus far, have a strong following in Europe and have performed the world over. DJ WaltDigz has the honor of spinning alongside Manolito, and the Bay Area’s dancers have the honor of dancing to both of their music! There will even be a dance lesson from 8:30 to 9:30 by local timba/rueda dance specialists Nick and Serena.
Check out Manolito’s Video "La Habana Me Llama" and be sure to see the show!
