Caffe Trieste

Caffe Trieste

No coffee house masters the art of coffee-making as well as Caffe Trieste. There is just something special about it.  Caffe Trieste was established in 1956 in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Today there are 5 coffee houses in the Bay Area; in addition to the North Beach location, there is one near the Civic Center in San Francisco, Piedmont-Oakland, Berkeley and San Jose. Trieste was founded by Italian immigrant Giovanni Giotta and his family.  "Remembering his fondness for the coffee houses of Trieste, Mr. Giotta, dubbed "Papa Gianni" in the early 1950's, decided to bring their charm and exquisite coffees to his new home", states the website.

The Giotta's still run the Caffe, where they also serve people, and they have added events such as Saturday morning live music performances, among others.

When there is no event going on, you get the feeling of an old, European coffee house that no other cafe or coffee chain can offer (like a certain Seattle-based chain). The secret may be the fact that they make one cup at a time:  "...the right blend of love and tradition has resulted in a standard of quality previously unattained. For Caffe Trieste Superb Coffees it's an old-fashioned way of doing things that still works. Brew each cup like it's for you".
