Santacon

Santa Claus will be coming to San Francisco this Saturday, December 12th.  Many of them, actually.  Santacon, begun in San Francisco in 1994, is essentially a pub crawl in red and white, with hordes of fun seekers dressed in their best Santa Claus gear roaming from one bar to another.

The event itself is very loosely organized; there are Santacons held in cities big and small all over the country, and though the dates vary, most Santacons will take place on 12/12.

The organizers insist that there is no message or movement behind Santacon: it is simply a bunch of Santas getting together to have a good time. Among the few rules that participating Santas are asked to abide by: dress as Santa (i.e., a simple red cap will not be enough), there are no weapons, vandalism or violence permitted, and bring a sense of fun and a willingness to sing Christmas carols. Whether sober or not.

In the true spirit of spontaneity and “santarchy”, the locations for Santacon 2009 will not be provided until the last minute- either Friday evening or Saturday afternoon.
