Anchalee food
I love Mexican food, especially authentic-like-they-make-it-in-Mexico Mexican food, but I can’t eat it every time I go out. That’s where Thai food comes in, spicy, healthy and simple-delicious! Anchalee Thai Cuisine is located at 1096 Dwight Way in Berkeley.
They’ve been here for a while, at least 4-5 years according to my significant other, and it shows in the relaxed but attentive wait staff and the simple decor, along with three or four beautiful and well placed paintings. It is small, with a handful of tables. It was a little busy, but we didn’t have to wait to be seated or to order and receive our food.
If you’re like me you’ll be tempted to try the coconut soup at any Thai restaurant, and we did - delicious! The chicken was tender, the mushrooms were crisp, the miniature corns were crunchy - but the broth was perfect - rich yet fresh, thick yet light; very appetizing.
The soup was my choice, and my boyfriend’s was the Pad Thai. I know, not very original, but if they can make Pad Thai well, maybe they can make other dishes just as well. The Pad Thai was also wonderful. It wasn’t greasy, the shrimp popped when you bit into it, and the noodles had a tartness that seemed to jump around on your tongue. I’m not making this up - the food was quite amazingly good.
