La Ciccia is an intimate and welcoming restaurant located in Noe Valley. It is far from any area of the city where a lot of restaurants are concentrated, but taking a little "stroll" over here is well worth the trouble.
The menu offers a selection of typical Sardinian food. Mediterranean food, yes, but not like anything you'd find at other Italian restaurants, since the recipes offered at La Ciccia are very unique to the distinct regions of Sardinia. Among the appetizers, I must mention the sardines and seafood salad; given the insular nature of Sardinia, it's inevitable that you'll find several fish dishes on the menu. With regards to the rest of the menu, and besides a few pizza options, there are fresh pasta dishes that are nothing like what you'll find in other restaurants, and also meat- veal, pork, and lamb prepared simply with the finest ingredients. The Italian wine list also deserves a special mention; there are over 100 bottles from all over Italy. Almost a quarter of the list is dedicated to wines from Sardinia, so there is no excuse for not accompanying your meal with the same wine enjoyed by the locals.
It is essential that you make a reservation ahead of time, since the small size and success of the restaurant have made it a top place to eat. Even with a reservation, you may have to wait a bit before your table is ready. As I said previously, however, it is worth it.
