Mijita
Located at the Ferry Building, Mijita restaurant is convenient for commuters, Soma residents, Financial District workers, tourists, or those patronizing the Saturday farmer's market, and is well worth the visit for anyone who likes good, authentic Mexican food. The breakfasts here are especially good, and are served all day.
Mijita restaurant is owned and operated by renowned San Francisco chef Traci Desjardins, an occasional competitor on the Food Network's "Iron Chef". Mijita is totally different from Jardiniere in Hayes Valley and Acme Chophouse by PacBell Park. It's small, cozy, and serves authentic Mexican food. The menu is not extensive, but this is not a drawback; the restaurant focuses on doing a few things really well. On the menu are basic tacos, tortas, and Mexican breakfast items like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. What you won't find here are burritos: the food is authentic, right down to the Mexican-style cafe de olla, a pungent, cinnamon-flavored coffee, the aguas frescas, fresh fruit juices mixed with water, and the Jarritos sodas and Mexican Coca-Colas. And as I mentioned, the breakfast is amazing. No matter what time of day it is when I come to Mijita, I tend to order the chilaquiles. The tortillas are crispy, the green salsa is flavorful, and it all combines to make a truly great breakfast any time of day.
If you're in the South of Market area and are craving good Mexican food, Mijita is definitely the place to go.
